Nizoral vs Denorex

By | May 18, 2018

Everybody hates dandruff. It may cause itching on your scalp, and it may leave flakes on your shoulders to lower your confidence. However, it is not the end of the world! There are several things that you can do to control and eliminate your dandruff problems; one would be using an anti-dandruff shampoo. Below, we will discuss two anti-dandruff shampoos that are quite popular on the market: Nizoral vs Denorex. Both of them are said to be effective. But note that they use different formulas and ingredients.

First of all, let’s take a look at the functions of these two shampoos. Both are able to control itching and flaking, but they have different uses and benefits. See also our previous post about Selsun Blue vs Nizoral here!

Nizoral is a dedicated anti-dandruff shampoo. The function is simple and straightforward. This shampoo is for controlling itching, flaking, and scaling that are associated with dandruff. So, if the itchiness on your scalp is caused not by dandruff, it will not help much.

On the other hand, Denorex has more functions. It is able to help reduce itching, flaking, and scaling caused by dandruff. It is also able to reduce and prevent the symptoms of psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. So, if you have any of these conditions, this shampoo can be your choice.

Active Ingredients
Now, let’s see the active ingredients of Nizoral vs Denorex. As you may have expected, these two shampoos come with different formulas. This is because they are meant for different purposes.

The active ingredient in Nizoral is ketoconazole 1%. This is an effective treatment for dandruff. Make sure that you are not allergic to the substance. Other ingredients include carbomer, fragrance, glycol distearate, sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, and sodium laureth sulfate.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient in Denorex is salicylic acid 3%, which is useful for controlling the symptoms of dandruff, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis. However, this substance is slightly irritating. This is generally not a problem as long as you use it according to the directions, but you should consult with your doctor before using it if you have any serious condition. In addition, Denorex contains provitamin B5 to nourish the hair and increase the manageability, dimethicone, fragrance, glycol distearate, panthenol, menthol, propylene glycol, and sodium olefin sulfonate.

Both Nizoral and Denorex shampoos require you to use at least twice a week in order to get the best results, or as directed by your physician. Do not use these shampoos too often because using them too often may damage the hair instead of getting rid of dandruff.

The Nizoral shampoo has a light blue color. The smell is quite pleasant. This shampoo produces thick and rich lather, but the lather rinses clean. On the other hand, the Denorex shampoo comes with a strange brown color, and the smell is weird; but hopefully, the color and smell are not going to stop you because it will massage your head in a pleasant way.

Nizoral vs Denorex
